Generating Unique IDs

Is it possible to generate unique IDs for table records? I worked with MS SQL in the past and used the auto increment feature but I'm not sure how this can be accomplished here. Also, how and where is the database stored? I know it stores serialized objects but how are they stored physically? Is it using XML files or something else?

As part of the 1.0 release I'll be working on more detailed documentation for these types of items. Right now Sterling does not generate the ids for you - this makes GUIDs ideal candidates to avoid key collisions. As for storage, it uses the folder structure to map out databases and tables, and then each "row" is serialized as a binary object (not XML).
